Stage 1

Install F-Droid.

F-Droid is an app store, like Play Store, but for open-source apps. Open source means the recipe for the app is public. We use it because the Termux copy on Play Store is old and causes problems.

This page is the install walk. The library page F-Droid is the longer why. Do not bounce between them tonight.

Install0 of 6 steps

Open Chrome or any browser

Stay on the phone. No laptop required.
Go to the official site

https://f-droid.org — not a look-alike page, not a random APK blog.
Download the official F-Droid APK

An APK is just the install file. Think of a boxed product. You have not opened the store yet. You only fetched the box.
Open the downloaded file and tap Install

The Files or Downloads app usually holds it.
If Android warns you, allow the browser just this once

That warning is the “unknown apps” setting from Stage 0. Expected. You are not breaking the phone.
Open F-Droid and wait

The first load can take a few minutes while it downloads the app list. Let it finish before you search.

F-Droid is in the house.

From now on, get Termux from F-Droid, not Play Store.

If it breaks

The download sits in Notifications or Downloads. If Install is grey, the unknown-apps toggle for that browser is still off.

If the site feels slow, wait. Do not grab F-Droid from a video description link.

Next step

In F-Droid, search and install Termux and Termux:API. Same store for both.
